Mace appointed for construction of King Salman International Airport world’s largest airport in Saudi Arabia

UK-based construction firm Mace has been selected as the delivery partner for the King Salman International Airport in Saudi Arabia, which is poised to become the world’s largest airport upon completion.

In its new role, Mace will be responsible for overseeing the planning and construction of the airport in Riyadh. The company will collaborate closely with the King Salman International Airport Development Company (KSIADC), a subsidiary of Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF).

Project overview

The ambitious airport project will feature six runways and is strategically planned to be operational in time for major global events, such as the Riyadh Expo 2030 and the FIFA World Cup in 2034. Spanning an area of 57 square kilometers, the airport is designed to accommodate more than 100 million passengers annually, positioning it as a key hub in international air travel.

Mace brings extensive experience to the project, having previously worked on major airport developments, including London’s Heathrow and Amsterdam’s Schiphol. The company’s responsibilities will encompass a comprehensive range of delivery partner services, including project and program management, planning, construction management, cost and commercial management, procurement, logistics, health and safety strategy, and sustainability advisory services.

The formalization of Mace’s appointment took place on August 20 during an official ceremony in Riyadh. At the event, Marco Mejia, the acting CEO of KSIADC, and Christopher Seymour, the managing director for Middle East and Africa at Mace Consult, signed the contract, marking the beginning of a significant partnership.

This project not only highlights Saudi Arabia’s commitment to expanding its infrastructure but also underscores Mace’s role in shaping some of the most significant construction projects worldwide. The King Salman International Airport is set to become a cornerstone of the kingdom’s Vision 2030, aimed at diversifying its economy and boosting tourism.
