St Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew has shared the progress of the construction as a process of land clearing has commenced in Sandy Point for the new climate-smart houses on Thursday, December 05, 2024.
PM Drew shared this information by posting a video of the land clearing process underway through his official social media account and noted, “Clearing land in Sandy Point for the construction of more homes.”
The Prime Minister said that this project is currently under ongoing development along with the twenty homes already underway in Ottley’s.
He also stated that the construction work always comes up with new employment opportunities for the locals, contributing towards the positive growth of the employment.
Notably, this initiative has been brought to life by the National Housing Corporation and the Ministry of Sustainable Development.
The NHC also shared updates and said that lands are currently being identified and prepared first in Ottley’s and subsequently in the St Peter’s and Sandy Point areas. The NHC, along with Physical Planning, is also ensuring that all housing developments meet with building code standards and are available to low- and middle-income families.
The NHC also assured the public of St Kitts that as the land-clearing operations continue throughout the week, updates on project timelines and construction phases will be communicated.
The authorities of the NHC stated that their broader initiative is to increase accessible housing solutions to as many residents as possible in an effort to meet the growing demand, all while enhancing the standard of living for countless families who reside across the island.
In addition to this, the Prime Minister also made a visit to the Ottley’s with Ambassador Leon Natta Nelson and leadership of East Coast Development last week to witness the ongoing work on the twenty climate-smart houses.
