Bondoukou Solar Project: Ivory Coast’s New 50MW Renewable Energy Initiative

AMEA Power, a leading renewable energy company, has officially commenced construction on a 50MW Bondoukou solar photovoltaic (PV) project in Ivory Coast. The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by H.E. Mamadou Sangafowa Coulibaly, Ivory Coast’s Minister of Mines, Oil, and Energy, along with David Falcon, Chief Financial Officer of AMEA Power.

Clean Energy for a Sustainable Future

Located in Bondoukou, in the north-eastern Gontougo region, the Bondoukou Solar PV Plant will generate approximately 85 GWh of clean electricity annually. This renewable energy initiative will provide power to nearly 358,000 households while reducing carbon emissions by over 52,000 tons per year. The project is managed by AMEA Goutougo, a locally registered subsidiary fully owned by AMEA Power.

Investment and Government Support

With a total investment of USD 60 million, the project is financed by FMO and DEG. It aligns with the Ivorian government’s ambitious target of achieving a 45% renewable energy share in its electricity mix by 2030. Hussain Al Nowais, Chairman of AMEA Power, highlighted the importance of this project, emphasizing the company’s dedication to advancing clean energy solutions across Africa. He also expressed appreciation for the strong collaboration between AMEA Power and the Ivorian government in supporting the country’s transition to sustainable energy.

Future Expansion and Community Development

Once operational, the Bondoukou Solar PV Plant will be AMEA Power’s first active renewable energy project in Ivory Coast. Additionally, the company is advancing the development of another 50MW solar PV project in the country.

Beyond energy generation, AMEA Power is committed to socio-economic progress through its ‘Community Investment and Development Programs.’ These initiatives will focus on gender equality, education, and vocational training, fostering long-term benefits for local communities.

With this groundbreaking achievement, Ivory Coast moves closer to its renewable energy goals, reinforcing its commitment to a cleaner and more sustainable future.
