bp and Iberdrola España start construction on Spain’s largest green hydrogen plant. This 25MW facility is adjacent to bp’s refinery in Castellón and will provide a major boost to the industrial decarbonization of the nation.
Project Overview
The plant is situated on a 20,000 m² plot and will be capable of generating up to 2,800 tonnes of green hydrogen per year. This will replace a part of the grey hydrogen currently used at Castellón refinery, reducing about 23,000 tonnes of CO₂ annually. One of the ways the green hydrogen will support other local industries in their decarbonization efforts is ceramics, chemicals and heavy transport industries.
